WILDLIFE NEEDS YOU

FOLLOWING THE HISTORIC ‘agreement without division’ to ‘Ban Trophy Hunting Imports’ in the House of Commons on 17th March – WE NEED YOUR HELP AGAIN

The bill has now entered the House of Lords and we need you to HELP by asking Lords to:

  • SUPPORT the Hunting Trophies [Import] Prohibition Bill.
  • ATTEND and vote for the bill without any amendments on whichever day is allocated to the bill.
  • INFORM: Let you and the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting know they intend to support the bill. They can also use social media if they use it and link to us via @CBTHunting on Twitter.

LOBBY THE LORDS – PLEASE WRITE TO THEM NOW

What to say to your Lord / Baroness

Dear Lord/Baroness/ – [use full name]

I am writing to ask you to support the Hunting Trophies [Import] Prohibition bill. This follows the historic ‘agreement without division’ to ban trophy hunting in the House of Commons on 17th March.

I am a supporter of both the bill to ban trophy hunting imports and the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting because ….

‘Insert your personal view here – please be polite and brief’.

Please help the bill pass successfully through the Lords.

I urge you to be there on the day to help prevent any wrecking amendments, which could cause the bill to fail. Please can you confirm if you would hope to attend and support the bill, once the next stages are allocated.

I would also appreciate it if you could join me as an official supporter of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting by emailing a message of support to bantrophyhunting.HoL@gmail.com.

Yours sincerely

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP

Lobbying a member of the House of Lords is not as simple as for an MP. Members of the Lords do not represent geographic areas (constituencies). It will help to find a member who has an interest in animal welfare and environmental issues or also something else you may be interested in. PLEASE WRITE TO as many anti cruelty members of the House of Lords as you can. The website has information on Lords ‘interests.

Search Speeches & Contributions:

You can see the members of the Lords who have spoken on following debates via this site:

If you check their speeches / contributions, you will be able to see which peers are likely to support or be against Henry Smith’s bill to #bantrophyhunting imports.

Some members of the House of Lords sit on various All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) e.g. the All Party Parliamentary Group on Banning Trophy Hunting . There is also a list of All Party Parliamentary Groups.

How to contact a Lord by mail

The best way to contact a member of the House of Lords is by letter. This is because many are specialists and may only attend the House when legislation of a debate requires specific knowledge and understanding.

Address:

The Lord/Baroness – & Name

House of Lords, London, SW1A 0PW.

How to address a Lord:

Some Lords should be addressed using their title only e.g.

·      Lord Sugar or Baroness Brady

Other Lords have an additional part of their title [because there are two or more with the same name] which should also be used when addressing them e.g.

·      Baroness Hayman of Ullock or Lord Goldsmith of Richmond Park.

By phone

You can get in touch with members of the Lords who have individual phone numbers through the main Parliament operator on 020 7219 3000

By email

You can email an individual member at contactholmember@parliament.uk or using their individual email address listed in the Members of the House of Lords section.

Please note that if more than six copies of the same email are received, all will be deleted.
